Heqing Silverware — A Cultural Heritage Forged by “A Thousand Years of Hammering”【滇西小哥】 During the Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom periods, Heqing—an important hub along the Ancient Tea Horse Road—had already developed early forms of silver craftsmanship. The local ethnic groups were highly skilled in metalwork, and silver ornaments became symbols of identity and culture. In the Ming Dynasty, soldiers and settlers from the Central Plains brought advanced metallurgical techniques, which gradually merged with local craftsmanship. Over time, Xinhua Village in Heqing (formerly known as Shizhaizi) became the center of silverware making. Artisans passed down their skills through family workshops, preserving and refining the craft through generations. The history of Heqing silverware is not only a chronicle of traditional craftsmanship but also a reflection of multi-ethnic cultural integration and the commercial civilization born along the Ancient Tea Horse Road.
